How I Feed 10 people on £10 or less per day



Daily I feed 10 people, I have 7 children aged 4, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 & 16 years, we also at present have my 17 year old Goddaughter as well as another teenage lad aged 16 years and then myself.

At present, and for the next 5 weeks, I have £88 a week to live on to cover gas/electric and food.

Never one to roll over and admit defeat, I decided to take up the challenge !

So here is my meal plan.  Its bland but as healthy as possible, home cooked and frugal, and will have to continue for the next 5 weeks


Monday's Meal Plan = £ 7.67

Breakfast - Creamy Porridge - £ 1.44

500g Porridge Oats
2ltrs  Milk
1ltr   Water
pinch of salt
1 tsp Sugar

Lunch - Eggy Bread - £ 2.65

18 eggs
1 & 1/2 loaves Bread (sliced medium white)

Beat eggs, dip bread into eggs and cook in a greased frying pan

Dinner - Sausage & Bean Casserole with Potatoes - £ 3.58

20 Value Sausages, cut into large slices
2 tins Chopped Plum Tomatoes
1 Red Onion, sliced thinly
3 Garlic Cloves
1 tbsp Mixed Herbs
1 tin Butter Beans
2.5 kg White Potatoes - cubed



Tuesday's Meal Plan = £ 6.85

Breakfast - Popcorn & Milk - £  .77p


9 tbsp oil
9 tbsp popcorn
1ltr Milk

cook popcorn (do the night before for best results)
pour over milk and drizzle a little honey on the top if required

Lunch - Bean Toasties - £ 1.65


2 tins of Baked Beans
1 & 1/2 loaves Bread (wholemeal)
1 handful of grated cheese

Dinner - Mozzerella Pasta Bake - £ 4.43

2 balls of Mozzerella
2 Onions (diced)
2 tins of Chopped Tomatoes
1kg Pasta Penne
300ml Vegetable Stock
3 tsp Tomato Puree
3 Garlic cloves
2 tsp Parsley



Wednesday's Meal Plan = £ 9.76

Breakfast - Porridge & Peaches - £ 1.76

500g Porridge Oats
2ltrs Milk (UHT)
1ltr Water
2 tins Peach slices (diced)

Make porridge and add peaches

Lunch - Bacon & Pasta Salad - £ 2.50


1 pk cooking Bacon
Pasta (fusilli)
Cherry Tomatoes
2 cups peas (cold)
1/2 cup Mayo (optional)

Dinner - Omelette, Potato Wedges & Beans - £5.50


18 Eggs
250g Grated Cheese
1pk Cherry Tomatoes
2.5 kg Potatoes - Wedged & Seasoned (salt, pepper, garlic and chill powder)
4 tins of Baked Beans


Thursday's Meal Plan = £10.00

Breakfast - Breakfast Bars - £ 1.60

250g Rolled Oats
1 tin Evaporated Milk
75g Coconut (fine)
200g Mixed Dried Fruit & Nuts

Lunch - Cheese, Tomato & Ham Toasties - £ 3.40


2 pks Cheese Singles
1 large pk Sliced Ham
1 & 1/2 loaves Bread (white sliced)

Dinner - Toad in the Hole, Mash, Vegetables & Red Onion Gravy - £ 5.00

20 Value Sausages
2 pts Yorkshire Pudding Batter
3 kg White Potatoes - Mashed
1.5 kg Broccoli & 1 kg Peas
1 Red Onion - Caramelised & 1 Pint Onion Gravy


Friday's Meal Plan = Cost £ 9.30

Breakfast - Pancakes & Fruit Syrup - £ 2.00


500g Plain Flour
1 tbsp Baking Powder
3 Eggs
3 tbsp Butter
300 ml Milk

Lunch - Chunky Vegetable & Red Lentil Soup - £ 3.50


1.5kg Casserole Vegetables (Carrots, Swede, Leek, Parsnip)
500g Red Lentils
Spices (Chilli & Cumin) - to taste
Salt & Pepper - to taste

Dinner - Vegetarian Spaghetti - £ 3.80


2 Onions (chopped)
2 Aubergines (cubed)
2 tins Chopped Tomatoes
1kg Spaghetti
Oil, Garlic, Chilli


Saturday's Meal Plan = £ 8.80

Breakfast - Banana Porridge - Cost - £ 2.28


500g Porridge Oats
2ltrs Milk (UHT)
1ltr Water
6 Bananas

Lunch - Sausage, Egg & Tomato Sandwich - £ 2.89


1 & 1/2 loaves White/W/meal Bread
10 Eggs
20 Sausages
2 tins Chopped Tomatoes

Dinner - Mexican Mince and Cheesy Potatoes - £ 3.63

1pk Cooking Bacon (chopped and fried)
2.5 kg Potatoes (wedged and preboiled)
1 Onion (diced)
1 tin Tomatoes
3 Garlic Cloves
250g Grated Cheese


Sunday's Meal Plan = £ 10.00

Breakfast - Chocolate & Banana Porridge - £ 2.00

500g Porridge Oats
2ltrs Milk (UHT)
1ltr Water
1/4 block of Cooking Chocolate
1/2 pk Bananas

Lunch - Meatloaf, Potatoes, Peas & Gravy - £ 4.50


500g Mince
2 pks Value Stuffing
1pk Sausages (skinned)
1 Egg
Garlic granules, parsley, salt & pepper to taste
2.5 kg Potatoes (Mashed & Roasted)
Green Vegetables Peas
Gravy

Dinner - Pizza Toast & Salad - £ 3.50


1 loaf Bread (sliced white)
1 tin Chopped Tomatoes
250g Grated Cheese
1 Iceberg Lettuce (roughly chopped)
1pk Cherry Tomatoes (1/4'rd)
1 Cucumbers (diced)


Total for the Week's Meals £ 62.38

leaving £ 25.62 for gas/electric
